About The Position

The Charge Nurse is responsible for clinical supervision of patient care for all patients in the department and job performance supervision of all employees on an assigned shift in a Medical and/or Surgical department. Plans, coordinates and provides for optimum patient care on the unit. This includes managing schedules and patient assignments, delivering annual evaluations and counseling conversations, and providing direct patient care when relieving nurses. Maintains the Standards of Nursing Care and provides care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act. Assures utilization of the nursing process based on research and evidence based outcomes. The Charge Nurse makes recommendations on hiring, department budgets, and trainings and serves as a leader in the department. Outpatient Treatment Centers Infusion: In addition to the above, may be responsible for contacting Providers to either enter, sign or modify orders. Enters all orders into the EMR that are received via email, fax, or verbal then routes to Providers for signature. Calls to ensure first time patients have prescriptions, started any required medications, and answers questions related to chemotherapy treatment.

Requirements

  • Charge Nurses at Magnet designated facilities only require a BSN.
  • Registered Nurse in the State of California - Current and in good standing.
  • Current BLS certification prior to clinical rotation.
  • For Oncology Infusion, 3 years Oncology Infusion experience required.
  • For Oncology Infusion, the Chemotherapy/biotherapy Cert. is required.
