About The Position
We are seeking a Progressive Care Unit (Stepdown) Charge Nurse. The PCU Charge Nurse will be responsible for overseeing the nursing staff and operations within the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Step-Down Unit. They will ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care, promote a positive work environment, and facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
Requirements
- Current and valid state RN License.
- Current BLS (AHA) upon hire and maintain current.
- Current ACLS (AHA) 30 days upon hire and maintain current.
- Minimum of one year staff nurse in an acute care hospital setting; Critical Care setting preferred.
Nice To Haves
- Previous supervisory experience, one to two years, in acute care hospital, ICU/CVICU setting, preferred.
- CCRN (AACN) within 2 years of hire, preferred.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN), preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and direction to the nursing staff in the PCU, including registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs), and nursing assistants.
- Assign patient care responsibilities based on staff competency and patient acuity levels.
- Ensure that patients in the PCU receive high-quality, safe, and effective care.
- Monitor patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes to ensure adherence to standards of practice and protocols.
- Distribute resources, encompass staffing, equipment, and supplies, to fulfill the requirements of patients and staff.
- Proactively identify and resolve any challenges pertaining to resource availability or usage.
- Coordinate care with physicians, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals involved in the care of PCU patients.
- Serve as an advocate for patients and families, ensure their needs, preferences, and concerns are addressed.
- Push for patient safety, quality of care, and adherence to ethical principles.
- Participate in quality improvement activities and initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care outcomes, optimizing processes, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and standards.
- Provide guidance, education, and mentorship to nursing staff in the Progressive Care Unit.
- Facilitate ongoing professional development through training, continuing education opportunities, and performance feedback.
