The Charge Nurse (RN) provides shift-level leadership to ensure safe, high-quality nursing care within the program. This role oversees nursing operations during assigned hours, supports staffing coordination, and ensures compliance with clinical, regulatory, and accreditation standards. The Charge Nurse serves as a key point of communication between nursing staff and leadership while helping to maintain a structured, supportive environment for both staff and clients.

Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (or eligible) in the state of Massachusetts
  • Strong leadership, organization, and time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and state licensing requirements
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification as required

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with CARF or similar accreditation standards preferred
  • Prior experience in behavioral health, substance use treatment, or inpatient settings preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision, guidance, and support to nursing staff during assigned hours
  • Coordinate staffing needs, including assisting with call-offs and on-call coverage
  • Oversee operations to ensure continuity and quality of client care
  • Assist with client admissions, transfers, and discharges
  • Support pre-certifications and related documentation as needed
  • Participate in preparation for regulatory and accreditation surveys
  • Assist with orientation and onboarding of new nursing staff
  • Promote a positive, collaborative team environment
  • Address and help resolve client or staff concerns professionally and promptly
  • Communicate client care issues and staffing concerns to nursing leadership
  • Ensure nursing documentation and medication administration meet all standards
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, state regulations, and accreditation requirements (e.g., CARF)
  • Complete all required trainings and perform additional duties as assigned
  • Provide shift-level supervision and direction to nursing staff
  • Offer coaching, support, and oversight to ensure safe and effective care delivery
