About The Position

MaineGeneral is seeking a Charge Nurse (RN) to lead clinical operations in our Perianesthesia Department. In this role, you will provide shift-based nursing leadership while remaining actively engaged in patient care. You will guide and support nursing staff, coordinate staffing and patient assignments, and help ensure safe, efficient flow through pre-op, PACU, and related perioperative areas. This position is ideal for a clinically strong RN who thrives in a fast-paced surgical environment and is ready to take on both hands-on patient care and frontline leadership responsibilities.

Requirements

Active Maine RN licensure or the ability to obtain
Minimum 2 years of perioperative, PACU, ICU, ED or perianesthesia nursing experience preferred
Prior charge nurse or leadership experience strongly preferred
Strong clinical judgement and critical thinking skills in high-acuity settings
Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced surgical environment

Responsibilities

Supervises and mentors nursing and support staff during assigned shift.
Determines staffing level and assignments based on staff availability, staff abilities, census, and patient acuity.
Provides direct patient care as needed.
Floats between staff to assist with problem-solving.
May take patient assignments to meet staffing needs.
Evaluates the effectiveness of patient care and identifies any issues that affect desired patient outcomes.
Responds to complaints about patient care and related services, and manages through established channels.
Performs responsibilities of the underlying job, including entering orders, performing admissions or discharges, and coordinating transfers.
Ensures staff has necessary equipment and supplies to provide safe and effective patient care.
