About The Position

This is a Full Time position for a Charge Nurse on a Post-Surgical Unit, working 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week. The RN III – senior level practice is guided by the nursing process and policy/procedure/standards. This role maintains a focused area of expertise for care/program and/or provides interventions or knowledge within niche areas. The Charge Nurse advances professional/shared governance, collaborates inter- and intra-professionally, delegates to others to advance care, and assumes an expanded role with increased responsibility. They are able to lead a small team and serve as a unit/service/program nursing practice mentor, identifying learning needs of others. The role requires the individual to know, understand, incorporate, and demonstrate the Trinity Health and MercyOne Mission, Vision, and Values in their behaviors, practices, and decisions. They must support safety by adhering to standards and acting as a champion role model, and be accountable for personal learning and development. The Charge Nurse will incorporate and demonstrate standard elements of professional practice: Assess, Diagnose, Outcomes Identification/Solutions, Plan, Implement, Evaluate. They will participate in the development of clinical standards that are collaborative, collegial, and supported by current evidence-based practices. In terms of leadership, they will inspire the team to embrace the organization’s Mission, Values, and Vision, cultivate excellence by supporting team growth and development, and advocate for continuous development with a focus on mentoring and succession planning. The Charge Nurse will utilize transformational leadership principles, lead the team effectively through change, and embrace ideas and cultural differences while managing complex priorities. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing is required.
  • Current Iowa RN license, (current IL license if working in IL) required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) is required within three (3) months of hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required within three (3) months of hire.
  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter for both Child and Dependent Adult Abuse training is required within six (6) months of hire.
  • Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
  • Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health and MercyOne.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
  • Specialty practice certification is preferred.
