Requirements

  • Experienced registered nurse.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Current license to practice professional nursing in the State required.
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and supports a nursing staff, while also treating a limited number of patients.
  • Maintains a high level of patient care.
  • Evaluates other nurses and acts as an educational resource for nurses.
  • Displays leadership, management and communication skills.
  • Manages, supervises and assists the nursing staff in the operating room, as well as providing administrative support and patient care.
  • Directs the admission, discharge and general flow of patients into the operating room.
  • Assigns nurses and support staff to patients/rooms.
  • Prioritizes and adapts during emergencies.
  • Provides guidance on administering care to new patients or those with special needs.
  • Answers questions regarding operating room protocol.
  • Works with other nurses and patients to create a plan of care that is individualized to a patient's needs.
  • Develops and implements training courses and organizes needs assessment to help educate and train new nurses and staff.
  • Creates schedules.
  • Maintains adequate supplies.
  • Informs staff of changes to protocol.
  • Plans budgets for the nursing staff (in some settings).
  • Provides patient care.
  • Circulates a surgical room.
  • Promotes the highest standards of clinical nursing care.
  • Leads, manages and supervises the work of the Staff Nurses.
  • Provides person-centered nursing care to residents which enables them to enjoy a valued life.
  • Completes one to one supervision sessions and appraisals for Staff Nurses.
  • Maintains good working relationships with the nursing and care team, attends staff meetings and encourages input from the whole team on improvements to the care home service.
  • Ensures effective assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care through the development of written care plans.
  • Maintains correctly written records as required by the company and the regulatory bodies.
  • Communicates all requests and changes of practice to all relevant personnel.
  • Assumes named nurse/link nurse responsibilities.
  • Reports any injuries, disease and dangerous practice to all relevant personnel.
  • Challenges poor practice and provides guidance for improving practice.
  • Deals with matters arising in the team with a view to settlement as opposed to escalation – if necessary, involves HR department for support and advice.
  • Ensures that all staff comply with the organization’s policies and procedures including Health and Safety and Fire Regulations.
  • Ensures that the service complies with regulatory requirements e.g. Control of Infection.
  • Attends staff meetings internally as required.
  • Maintains sound working relationships with staff in regulatory bodies and other relevant organizations.
