About The Position

The Hospitalist Charge Nurse is responsible for supporting and supervising the daily operations of the Hospitalist Case Management team. This role serves as a clinical and operational resource, ensuring effective patient progression, high-quality care coordination, regulatory compliance, staff development, and exceptional patient experiences. The Charge Nurse provides leadership for department workflows, staff scheduling, education, and documentation review while partnering closely with the Director of the Hospitalist Program to address patient experience concerns, process improvement initiatives, and departmental goals.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse - KSBN A multistate license with the ability to practice within the State of Kansas is also accepted. Required
  • Leadership, communication, organization, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills (Required proficiency)
  • Knowledge of care coordination, discharge planning, and utilization management (Required proficiency)
  • Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation requirements (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and implement process improvements (Required proficiency)
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities (Required proficiency)
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and healthcare information systems. (Required proficiency)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree Bachelors of Science: Nursing (BSN) Preferred
  • 2 years Current experience in related clinical field in acute care facility. Preferred
  • Supervisor experience. Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a clinical and operational resource while supporting interdisciplinary rounds, patient progression, discharge planning, and safe transitions of care.
  • Lead orientation, education, competency development, coaching, mentoring, and performance support for Hospitalist Case Managers.
  • Direct daily Hospitalist Case Management operations, including workflow coordination, staffing coverage, and resolution of operational barriers.
  • Audit case management documentation and monitor quality, regulatory, and performance measures; provide feedback and implement improvement plans. Communicates to lead change, influence others, and resolve conflict.
  • Partner with the Director to address patient concerns, service recovery, leadership rounding, and patient experience improvement strategies.
  • Promote effective interdisciplinary communication and implement departmental policies, standards, initiatives, and process improvements.
  • Assist with departmental reporting, productivity tracking, performance monitoring, policy development, and strategic planning.
  • Escalate complex discharge planning and care coordination concerns to appropriate leaders and partners.
  • Represent Hospitalist Services on assigned committees, workgroups, and organizational initiatives.
  • Support compliance with organizational, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
  • Promote a culture of safety, respect, trust, accountability, and professional growth.
  • Support fiscally responsible staffing and scheduling practices.
  • Proficient in staffing and scheduling practices to optimize our ability to care for patients and remain fiscally responsible.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
