About The Position
The NC Department of Adult Correction is seeking a Float Nurse to provide professional nursing care to offenders. This role involves the full spectrum of assessment and intervention, including sick call, assisting physicians, carrying out orders, planning and evaluating care, responding to emergencies, managing mental and dental health care, administering medications, monitoring for communicable diseases, conducting Chronic Disease Clinics, updating physical examinations, and teaching. The position may supervise subordinate staff and will provide staffing coverage across various facilities in the South-Central Region based on need. This is a reposted position, and previous applicants do not need to reapply.
Requirements
- Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina.
- One year of nursing experience.
- Must provide education, RN license #, and all experience on the application to be considered.

Responsibilities
- Provide professional nursing care in accordance with standard nursing practice and theory, agency regulations, physicians’ orders, and instructions from higher level nursing staff.
- Perform clinical responsibilities including assessment and intervention necessary to maintain maximum function and promote well-being.
- Conduct sick call/assessment.
- Assist the physician.
- Carry out physician orders.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care.
- Respond to emergencies.
- Facilitate mental and dental health care.
- Prepare and administer medications.
- Monitor for communicable diseases.
- Conduct Chronic Disease Clinics.
- Update physical examinations.
- Teach patients.
- Delegate to or supervise other personnel in implementing the treatment regimen.
- Provide staffing coverage based on the need throughout facilities in the South-Central Region.
