About The Position

Are you passionate about helping youth succeed and ready to take on a leadership role in a mission-driven environment? Griffith Centers is seeking a Charge/Mental Health Technician to help ensure the safety, well-being, and growth of youth receiving residential treatment services. In this role, you will provide direct support to youth while serving as a leader on shift, coordinating daily operations, supporting staff, responding to crises, and fostering a safe, structured, and trauma-informed environment where young people can thrive.

Requirements

  • A 4-year college degree and at least one (1) year of relevant experience is preferred; however, the following substitutions will be considered: A high school diploma or equivalent plus at least two (2) years of experience in the human services field.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent plus 30 semester hours of college credit and at least one (1) year of relevant experience.
  • Colorado substitute teacher’s license or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Qualified Medication Administration Personnel Certification (QMAP), or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • CPR/First Aid Certifications, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work with sensitivity to the cultural and/or socioeconomic diversity of the agency’s clients and staff.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and trust.
  • Valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one with a clean motor vehicle record.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must successfully complete a comprehensive background screening as a condition of employment, in accordance with Colorado Department of Human Services regulations for childcare facilities. This screening includes initial and ongoing state criminal background checks, fingerprinting, sex offender registry searches, and abuse and neglect clearances. If the employee has lived in any other state within the past five years, equivalent background and abuse/neglect checks from those states will also be conducted.
  • In addition, employees are required to complete a health evaluation or physical examination prior to beginning service to confirm fitness for duty, and annually thereafter.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure appropriate daily staffing in accordance with CDHS-mandated staff-to-client ratios by scheduling, adjusting coverage, and providing on-the-floor support as needed.
  • Maintain a safe, trauma-informed environment by consistently monitoring program areas, addressing behavioral or safety concerns, and prioritizing the physical and emotional well-being of youth and staff.
  • Lead crisis response efforts, including de-escalation, lockdown procedures, fire and safety drills, and immediate coordination with on-call supervisors, law enforcement, or emergency medical services when necessary.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and on-the-job training to Mental Health Technicians and other staff; ensure adherence to policy, encourage professional development, and promote consistent quality of care.
  • Uphold all CDHS Volume 7 standards related to incident reporting, client supervision, physical intervention, and documentation timelines; ensure reports are accurate, reviewed, and submitted on time.
  • Maintain thorough and timely documentation in the charge log, including incident reports, staffing updates, safety concerns, and any changes in client status.
  • Safely participate in crisis intervention procedures, including physical restraint techniques, when necessary to maintain the safety of youth, staff, and others.

  • $1.00 per hour shift differential when working in the Charge role
