This role is part of Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering (ACE), supporting Blue Origin’s mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. The team fosters innovation and drives engineering workflows of the future, shared solutions and standards, simplicity and lower costs, and manufacturable design. As part of a hardworking team of specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will help support the production testing needs in Huntsville. While supporting production testing needs is the main task for this lab, you will be working under a separate Business Unit: Advanced Concepts and Engineering. You will help ensure fast, reliable, quality, and accurate testing for the Blue Origin Huntsville sites: Explorer Factory, Jemison Factory, and the Marshall Space Flight Center test stand.

Requirements

  • 2+ years working in a production environment
  • 1+ years in a role with inspection requirements
  • Familiarity with a work management system (LIMS, Production Control, Scheduling, data dashboards, etc.)
  • Proficient with Microscope
  • Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work around mechanical, chemical, and thermal hazards
  • Ability to lift 50 lbf
  • Ability and willingness to learn
  • Commitment to safety and usage to Stop Work Authority
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years working in a laboratory or testing environment
  • Bachelor degree in a scientific or engineering field
  • Weld inspection experience
  • Microscopy experience
  • Metallography experience
  • Mechanical (tensile, compression, hardness) testing experience
  • Chemical handling experience

Responsibilities

  • Receiving and tracking work requests to ensure traceability and records
  • Performing sample preparation (sectioning, mounting, polishing, chemical etching, heat treatment, deburing, cleaning, etc.)
  • Performing evaluation of a variety of sample types, tests, and tools (microscopy, FT-IR, SEM/EDS, XRF, load frame, Gleeble, etc.)
  • Maintaining 5S of lab space and equipment, including assigned PM and cleaning tasks
  • Creating, handling, and use etchants and their reagents
  • Collecting and Evaluating FOD
  • Maintaining communication with customers through testing process, including creating of reports and summaries of testing
