About The Position

The Chaplain provides intensive and extensive spiritual care throughout the hospital and in assigned clinical areas to diverse patients and their families as well as to hospital employees and the organization. Requirements

  • Master’s level degree that is accepted by certifying chaplaincy organizations (required)
  • Four (4) units of Accredited Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) (required)
  • One (1) unit of ACPE accredited Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) (required) for PRN applicants/positions
  • Eligibility for board-certification through Association for Professional Chaplains (APC), National Association for Catholic Chaplains (NACC), or National Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC)/Neshama (required)

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Divinity with specialization in spiritual/pastoral care or chaplaincy (preferred)
  • Completion of at least half of their Master level degree (preferred) for PRN applicants/positions
  • Four (4) units of ACPE accredited CPE for PRN chaplains (preferred)
  • Board-certification through APC, NACC, or NAJC/Neshama (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patients’ and families’ spiritual needs and resources and provides culturally sensitive spiritual care interventions accordingly, including but not limited to the provision or coordination of religious rituals, crisis care, spiritual counseling, grief counseling, and support groups
  • Communicates spiritual care needs of patients and their families as a member of the interdisciplinary care team and collaborates with physicians, hospital staff, and spiritual/religious leaders in the community in the care of patients and their families
  • Provides spiritual care and emotional support to hospital employees individually and in group settings
  • Participates in the Chaplaincy Services department’s educational programs for chaplain interns and chaplain residents
  • Documents all spiritual care interventions and plans of care in patients’ medical records
  • Participates in departmental and interdepartmental process improvement initiatives
  • Serves on organizational committees or in work groups as assigned or requested
  • PRN Chaplains at Jewish Hospital must work at least one (1) weekend shift and five (5) on-call shifts per month
  • Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct
  • Performs other duties as assigned
