Valley Hope of Atchison, located just northwest of Kansas City, has provided residential drug and alcohol addiction treatment services since 1972.

Requirements

  • Ordination by, or licensure from, a recognized ecclesiastical body that ensures pastoral privilege.
  • One (1) year of experience in pastoral ministry
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification; or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Performs assessments of patient’s spiritual needs, motivations, and background; prepares spiritual histories for patient summaries and treatment records.
  • Provides pastoral counseling and spiritual care to patients in support of their substance abuse treatment plans; provides pastoral support to family and support members as needed.
  • Records treatment activities and patient observations in patient records accurately and timely; completes paperwork requirements as needed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Participates in a multi-disciplinary treatment team to develop and implement treatment plans.
  • Communicates with clinical and medical staff regarding patients’ treatment and status.
  • Provides daily chapel meditations as well as spiritually focused group counseling and educational lectures.
  • Provides assistance as needed to clinical and medical staff in crisis situations with patients in support of resolving emergency problems; appropriately available when scheduled for “On-Call” duties.
  • Maintains and demonstrates a current working knowledge of applicable spiritual counseling procedures and related substance abuse treatment in accordance with company policy and State and Federal guidelines.
  • Completes any required continuing education.
  • Adheres to Valley Hope’s clinical philosophies, policies, and procedures as well as any other regulating bodies to ensure quality patient care.
  • Participates in all assigned staff meetings, staff development, and training as required.
  • Interacts and communicates with others (patients, co-workers, management, and vendors) in a professional and tactful manner including treating them with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position.
