About The Position

Provides Pastoral leadership in coordinating all campus ministerial activities including spiritual, religious, and personal counseling/guidance to residents, family members and staff. Acts as a key ministry partner with the other chaplain at communities. Functions as a key contact with clergy from the community surrounding the campus. The Chaplain serves in a staff relationship to Administration and Department Directors. The Chaplain shall establish and maintain strong ties and relationships with all community residents, their families and their clergy. Coordination of all religious gatherings on campus at all levels of care, whether for residents or staff and including memorial services, prayer meetings, Bible studies, Communion, Theological lecture series, etc. Development and maintenance of routine communications with local clergy, working to keep residents and their chosen clergy connected. Assure residents have opportunities to know and participate in their chosen church’s activities and facilitate the involvement of local clergy into pastoral care, worship services and community of the campus. Support and garner participation of the campus in mutually developed mission efforts. Assure the scheduling and maintenance of spaces used for worship, teaching and religious programming. Within the tenants of LifeConnect®, knows each resident and partners with them in their on going spiritual formation identifying the needs for Biblical instruction, worship, fellowship and opportunities for volunteer service. Spiritual programming on campus is intended to be the outgrowth of expressed needs, not an attempt to create or compete with local church ministries. Participates in and manages an active program of visitation which offers support to residents, staff, and caregivers in times of crisis as well as those requesting pastoral care during times of dying, illness and hospitalization. The Chaplains shall assure that pastors in the community are informed of the need for pastoral care and visits of their church members. Promote and provide oversight to programs which provide residents purposeful living and volunteerism. Actively serve and participate on campus committees, such as the Ethics committee, Spiritual Formation committee, staff meetings, and other opportunities to function as a campus leaders as requested by the Executive Director. Responsible to provide multiple opportunities for staff and residents to hear and respond to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Serve as a role model in living out the characteristics as listed in Colossians 3 and in such a way share the Gospel.

Requirements

  • Ordination by the Evangelical Covenant Church.
  • Masters of Divinity or Master of Arts in Theology or Chaplain Certification.
  • Minimum of 5 years ministry experience in congregational ministry, hospital chaplaincy, missions or para-church ministry.
  • Demonstrated experience with ministries to seniors is required.
  • Must demonstrate effective communication skills.
  • Must articulate a passion for ministry characterized by servant leadership.
  • Demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain healthy and positive relationships with staff and residents.
  • Must have an appreciation for corporate structure and understanding of demands placed on administration.
  • Must be comfortable with a flexible schedule, able to work outside of normal hours.
  • Able to handle confidential information.
  • Must demonstrate good judgment, possess problem-solving skills, and remain calm when faced with unusual circumstances.

Nice To Haves

  • Clinical training in approved geriatric counseling programs or pastoral experience in a congregate living situation is preferred.

  • Partner with residents in their ongoing spiritual formation, identifying needs for Biblical instruction, worship, fellowship, and volunteer service.
  • Manage an active program of visitation offering support during times of crisis, dying, illness, and hospitalization.
  • Inform community pastors of the need for pastoral care and visits for their church members.
  • Promote and provide oversight to programs that offer residents purposeful living and volunteerism.
  • Actively serve and participate on campus committees (e.g., Ethics committee, Spiritual Formation committee) and staff meetings.
  • Provide opportunities for staff and residents to hear and respond to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
