About The Position

The Chaplain provides spiritual and emotional care for residents, their families, and staff members in accordance with the Covenant Care Mission, Vision, and Values. The Chaplain functions as an integrated member of the care team and provides spiritual leadership within the facility. The Chaplain provides spiritual care to people of all faiths, respectful of their unique journey and the interweaving of health, cultural, religious, and/or spiritual traditions. The Chaplain encourages the development and integration of an individual’s own spiritual resources and promotes expressions of healthy spirituality. The Chaplain establishes supportive relationships with residents and faith community members to build a network of spiritual and religious resources for residents and families. This position will model the organization's mission, vision, and values, consistently representing Covenant professionally and positively, and collaborate effectively as a professional team player, supporting the achievement of Covenant’s Mission, Vision, and Values.

Requirements

Sound theological/religious studies preparation with an undergraduate degree or equivalent obtained from a recognized theological college required
Basic Supervised Pastoral Education (SPE)
Minimum of one year experience in Hospice Palliative Care with a strong knowledge and understanding of the spiritual and psychosocial needs of patients and families at end of life.
Experience in working as a part of an Interdisciplinary Team
Experience and working knowledge of Microsoft and other technology base programs (Zoom, Teams)
Skilled in providing existential, spiritual, & religious patient care across beliefs, cultural perspectives & practices
Experience in grief and bereavement care
Experience with Ethics and Ethical decision-making frameworks

Nice To Haves

Master's degree in Theology preferred
A minimum of two additional units of Advanced SPE with Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) preferred. Training needs to be provided by an accredited Canadian Association for Spiritual Care training facility or its equivalent
Willingness to seek Specialist standing with CASC or equivalent professional certification preferred
