Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field Required
  • Two units of CPE Preferred In lieu of two units, one unit of CPE in combination of related experience and education Required
  • An understanding of theology and psychology of religion as they relate to the spiritual and religious needs of patients and families.
  • Ability to integrate concepts of theology and comparative religions and behavioral sciences in the practice of pastoral care.
  • Possess observational and analytical skills to respond to crisis situations, assess spiritual needs, record and make referrals accordingly.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills necessary for effective communication.
  • Flexibility to be available to meet the needs of the rotation schedule of the department, which includes being on-call approximately 2 overnight shifts per week.
  • Ability to respond in person to hospital campus within 30 minutes of being contacted for emergent circumstances.
  • Open and flexible to work with religious, cultural, social, and economic diversity.
  • Continuing education during the year is strongly preferred to maintain and enhance professional expertise.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree Preferred
  • Previous experience in pediatrics and/ or family systems Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Understands and satisfies the needs of the neonatal, infant, toddler, pre-school, school-age, adolescent and/or adult patient in regards to their growth and development process.
  • Rotates responsibility with team to facilitate availability of chaplaincy services to meet urgent patient/family needs.
  • Visits patients and their families to provide spiritual care based on individual the patient and family needs and preferences.
  • Provides or facilitates sacramental and ritual ministries as appropriate within organizational guidelines.
  • Serves as a liaison for and a consultant to area clergy, medical and nursing staff in the spiritual/religious needs of the patients and families.
