About The Position

We are seeking a Chaplain to service our Palliative/Hospice patients throughout the Aiken area. Chaplain will service homes and/or Assisted Living Facility patients providing spiritual and emotional support to patients and families. This role involves providing compassionate presence, facilitating meaning-making, and offering spiritual guidance to individuals of diverse faith backgrounds and beliefs. This is a salary-based position. It is a full-time 8-hr position (8:00AM-5:00PM) (Monday-Friday) The following service area(s) are currently available: Aiken area

Requirements

  • Master of Divinity (MDiv) or equivalent theological degree from an accredited institution.
  • Ordination or endorsement from a recognized religious organization.
  • Experience in providing spiritual care in a healthcare setting, preferably hospice or palliative care.
  • Knowledge of diverse religious and spiritual traditions.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills.
  • Ability to provide compassionate care to individuals facing end-of-life challenges.
  • Sensitivity to cultural and religious differences.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours and travel between offices, facilities, etc.
  • Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state and/or organizational requirements and is in good working order.

Nice To Haves

  • Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct spiritual assessments to understand the patient's beliefs, values, and spiritual needs.
  • Provide spiritual counseling and support to patients and families, addressing fears, anxieties, and existential questions related to death and dying.
  • Offer prayer, scripture reading, and other spiritual rituals as appropriate and requested by the patient and family.
  • Facilitate meaning-making and life review conversations, helping patients find peace and closure.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary hospice team to ensure holistic patient care, addressing spiritual needs alongside physical, emotional, and social needs.
  • Participate in team meetings and case conferences to discuss patient progress and care plans.
  • Provide spiritual support and guidance to hospice staff and volunteers.
  • Develop relationships with local clergy and faith communities to provide support and resources to patients and families.
  • Conduct presentations and workshops on spirituality and end-of-life care for community groups.
  • Represent the hospice organization at community events and promote spiritual care services.
  • Provide spiritual and emotional support to bereaved families.
  • Assist with memorial services and funeral planning, as requested.
  • Participate in bereavement support groups and programs.
