About The Position

The Chaplain is an integral member of the interdisciplinary team, dedicated to addressing the spiritual needs of patients, their families, caregivers, and staff, including volunteers. This role involves providing pastoral care interventions, such as pastoral counseling, which are tailored based on spiritual assessments, the specific care setting, and a deep sensitivity to diverse values, beliefs, and religious orientations. The Chaplain is expected to deliver pastoral care with excellence, demonstrating an authentic demeanor, compassion, and proficiency in navigating the spiritual complexities associated with illness, loss, and death.

Requirements

  • Ordination or Commission to function in a ministry of pastoral care
  • Received the endorsement of and is in good standing with his/her body of faith
  • A minimum of 1 unit (400 hours) of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) accredited by one of the following: Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, National Association of Catholic Chaplains or the Canadian Association for Pastoral Practice and Education
  • Evidence of clinical pastoral educational experience that includes supervision of ministry, peer group participation and theological reflection (as an equivalency to CPE)
  • AAMFT, AAPC, or AMHC certification (as an equivalency to CPE)
  • DMin or other accredited graduate degree in pastoral care (as an equivalency to CPE)
  • Knowledge and skill in dealing with spiritual dynamics of illness, loss and death
  • Ability to function as a member of an interdisciplinary team
  • Commitment to professional growth and development
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • Master's of Divinity or equivalent graduate degree from an accredited (ATS) seminary or theological school

Nice To Haves

  • Five years of pastoral experience
  • Two years of pastoral experience in a clinical setting
  • Preferably two (2) or more units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)
