About The Position

Provide pastoral care to patients, families, and staff in an assigned hospital. Supports the mission, vision, values, and strategic goals of Methodist Health System. Provides education to families and patients regarding Advance Directives/Medical Power of Attorney and offers assistance in completing the process. In conjunction with the pastoral care team, organizes and conducts quarterly memorial services for the families of patients who pass away within the Methodist Health System. Provides bereavement support in conjunction with the pastoral care team. Provides decedent care services and coordinates with funeral homes, medical examiners, and other entities to dispose of bodies at MHS with compassion and sensitivity. Participates in the ministry of the department’s availability to the assigned campus through sharing in schedule rotations, on-call duties, shift changes, etc., for the purpose of hospital coverage. Participates in spiritual liturgical services as assigned. Documents activity in appropriate mechanisms (electronic log, electronic medical record, etc.). Demonstrates a pastoral approach to hospital ministry. Participates in Professional Development educational opportunities as offered through Organizational Effectiveness and Association of Professional Chaplains. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Masters of Theology or Equivalent, or in the process of obtaining a Master’s Degree.
  • Completed 1 year CPE residency.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Ability to relate to people of all ages, all religions, cultures, and ethnic groups.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities
