About The Position

The Chaplain Fellow will provide pastoral care to patients, families, and staff within the assigned hospital. This role supports the mission, vision, values, and strategic goals of Methodist Health System. Responsibilities include educating families and patients about Advance Directives/Medical Power of Attorney, assisting with the completion process, organizing and conducting memorial services for deceased patients, providing bereavement support, and managing decedent care services with compassion and sensitivity. The fellow will participate in the ministry's availability through scheduled rotations and on-call duties for hospital coverage, lead spiritual and liturgical services, and document all activities accurately. A pastoral approach to hospital ministry is expected, along with participation in Professional Development educational opportunities.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree, Masters of Theology or Equivalent, or in the process of obtaining a Master’s Degree.
Completed 1 year CPE residency.
Ability to handle confidential information.
Ability to relate to people of all ages, all religions, cultures, and ethnic groups.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

Provide pastoral care to patients, families, and staff.
Educate families and patients regarding Advance Directives/Medical Power of Attorney and assist in completing the process.
Organize and conduct quarterly memorial services for families of patients who pass away.
Provide bereavement support.
Provide decedent care services and coordinate with funeral homes, medical examiners, and other entities.
Participate in the ministry's availability through scheduled rotations, on-call duties, and shift changes for hospital coverage.
Participate in spiritual and liturgical services as assigned.
Document activity in appropriate mechanisms (electronic log, electronic medical record, etc.).
Demonstrate a pastoral approach to hospital ministry.
Participate in Professional Development educational opportunities.
