About The Position

Mayo Clinic is a top-ranked healthcare provider dedicated to patient needs and employee well-being, offering competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits. This role reports to the Mayo Clinic Chief Financial Officer and is a member of the Finance Leadership Team. The position requires collaboration with practice leadership and clinical practice committees to align payment models with clinical care models. Key partners include site and shield CFOs, the Chair of Revenue Cycle, Strategy, other finance leaders, the Kern Center for the Science of Health Care Delivery, Government Relations, and Information Technology. The Chair oversees a team managing over $20 billion in annual commercial and government payment revenue, encompassing actuarial services, performance and analytics, commercial contracting, government and pricing strategy, strategic pricing, payment model innovation, and the chargemaster. This is a hybrid position requiring proximity to Jacksonville, FL; Phoenix, AZ; or Rochester, MN, with on-site work based on business needs.

Requirements

  • MBA, MHA, or similar degree
  • 10+ years of management experience in the healthcare field
  • Track record of success in negotiating provider-payer contracts
  • Expertise in crafting successful risk-based contracts and payment models
  • Specific experience with CMS value-based models (ACO’s, BPCI, etc.)
  • Expertise and direct experience managing operations
  • Specific skills in budgeting and forecasting, process improvement, and planning and project management
  • Unique combinations of education and experience which provide an equivalent background may also meet the requirements of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the Chief Financial Officer and other executives in strategy development on core payment and reimbursement models, including the ideation and business planning on innovative payment and delivery models that support Mayo Clinic’s Strategic Operating Plan.
  • Has primary responsibility for ideation and model development, financial design, performance and analytics, negotiating strategies and tactics, and day-to-day operations supporting new care models.
  • Uses data and analytics to monitor and identify opportunities and exposures in government and commercial segments to advance Mayo Clinic’s strategic operating plan, merging efforts and approaches for accurate and real-time information access for transactional revenue cycle and operating leadership.
  • Leverages pricing information for healthcare providers for market intelligence and positioning.
  • Designs and implements reimbursement and contract approaches in concert with practice leadership, supported by data and analytics, to capitalize on opportunities and mitigate exposures.
  • Ensures necessary teams and individuals are engaged in ideation and development of solutions, communicating corresponding processes, workflows, training, and change management.
  • Ensures future data, analytic, and operational capabilities and skills are in place.
  • Establishes and achieves performance metric targets and monitors them for ongoing enhancement.
  • Manages commercial contracting in domestic and international markets, direct-to-employer contracting, risk-based program design and analytics, strategic market pricing, and Medicare strategy.
  • Represents the department and participates in institutional committees and taskforces, engaging with external groups to stay informed of market disruptors and innovations in payment and delivery models.
  • Coordinates Mayo resources (projects, people, facilities, money, and equipment) effectively and efficiently.
  • Leads, coaches, and mentors a staff of leaders.
