About The Position

As the administrative leader, the Chair is responsible for growth and advancement of clinical services, research, and education. Responsibilities include overseeing quality, efficiency and access to clinical care delivered; patient experience; developing faculty and trainees; strengthening collaborative departmental relationships and enhancing outreach activities. Responsible for growth and advancement of the Department across FIU and Nicklaus Children's while fostering a culture of excellence. The Chair of Pediatrics and Pediatrician-in-Chief will serve in a dual academic and clinical leadership role that reflects the joint nature of the FIU/Nicklaus affiliation. For university academic matters, the Chair maintains a formal reporting relationship to the Dean of the FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. For health system matters, the Pediatrician-in-Chief maintains a formal reporting relationship up to the President and CEO of Nicklaus Children's Health System. For day-to-day clinical and operational matters within Nicklaus Children's, the Chair will partner closely with the Chief Physician Executive. In keeping with the integrated mission of the affiliation, the Chair will work closely with the President and CEO of Nicklaus Children's Health System, the NCPS Board, the FIU/Nicklaus Joint Steering Committee, the Chief Physician Executive, and other health system and university leaders to advance shared strategic priorities across teaching, research, and clinical care. The Associate DIO will work closely with the Chair on pediatric GME strategy, program development, accreditation efforts, and future growth initiatives while remaining within the established graduate medical education reporting structure through the FIU Designated Institutional Official.

Requirements

Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from an accredited medical school
Doctor of Medicine eligible for Florida state medical license and in good standing with the medical board
Board certification in a pediatric specialty
Eligibility and Academic credentials consistent with appointment as Professor at FIU HWCOM
7-10 years of experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team.
More than 10 years of clinical experience beyond board certification.
4-7 years of administrative experience.
4-7 years of experience in performance improvement, research and publishing.
4-7 years of experience in research and teaching with academic pediatrics.
4-7 years of prior engagement in clinical research, protocol development, and scholarly activities.

Responsibilities

Provide executive leadership for a multispecialty pediatric group with over 300 providers.
Guide clinical integration strategies, value-based care initiatives, and growth of services.
Accountable for clinical quality, financial performance, physician engagement, and recruitment.
Represent NCPS in community, payer, and academic forums.
Serve as a Senior Vice President and Executive Leader of Nicklaus Children’s Health System.
Lead academic strategy for the Department of Pediatrics across education, research, and service missions.
Recruit, retain, and develop a diverse and dynamic academic faculty.
Collaborate with other department chairs and senior leadership to advance HWCOM’s research enterprise and UME/GME programs.
Foster mentorship, innovation, and scholarly productivity.
Serve as the senior physician leader of the FIU-Nicklaus Children’s partnership.
Drive alignment of clinical and academic missions.
Develop signature programs in pediatric health aligned with institutional goals.
Represent the partnership regionally and nationally to promote strategic vision and elevate visibility.
Develops a departmental strategy that will achieve desired accomplishments in research, educational programs, clinical care quality, philanthropy, and service to the community.
Demonstrate leadership by engaging in professional practice evaluation and exemplifying high standards of care.
Establishes communication protocols, clinical practice principles, and collaboration expectations within the Department.
Creates a patient-centric care model and fosters a culture of excellence for patients and communities serviced by Nicklaus Children’s.
Encourages a collaborative approach to pediatric care with other medical leaders, strengthening relationships to align with the mission of clinical excellence and standardized care.
Establishes, supports, and grows important relationships within Nicklaus Children’s and Florida International University to strengthen collaboration among multidisciplinary teams.
Guides, mentors, and develops staff to build internal capabilities and ensure succession planning.
Expands the scholarly activities of the Department through breakthrough research, publishing, and excellent training programs.
Collaborates with clinical leadership to expand clinical trials and research activities within the existing Nicklaus Children’s framework.
Works collaboratively across both institutions to grow the research enterprise and improve the HERD ranking through talent acquisition and growth in grant funding.
Leads the growth of GME education programs, including the addition of new fellowships and the elevation of the profile, reputation, and quality of training programs.
