About The Position

Labcorp is seeking a Certifying Scientist to join their team in Houston, TX. This role is responsible for certifying and releasing drug test results, performing certification review of all initial and confirmation data, and accurately entering and reporting test results for all specimens. The Certifying Scientist will also be responsible for the verification of chain of custody documents, quality controls, and calibrations. Additionally, they will provide technical, interpretive, and/or regulatory consultation and assistance to clients, ensure initial technical review is complete and accurate, and perform GC/MS, LC/MS/MS and GC/FID certification in accordance with SOPs. The role requires understanding and following quality procedures and protocols for security and confidentiality, reviewing and following chain of custody procedures with accuracy and consistency, and identifying and resolving quality control issues in a timely manner. The Certifying Scientist may also assist in the preparation of litigation packages and affidavits, consult with laboratory technical staff regarding routine testing issues and practices, and prepare for and participate in inspections and audits when required. Adherence to all regulatory and standard operating procedure requirements, maintaining a safe work environment, and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment are also key responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Chemical or Biological Science OR Master's degree in Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology with 1 year or more of clinical testing OR Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology with 2 years or more of clinical testing experience
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test

Nice To Haves

  • Current or prior Labcorp experience
  • 3 months or more of Certifying Scientist or Toxicology experience
  • 6 months or more chromatography and/or mass spectrometry experience
  • Certifying Scientist and Toxicology experience
  • In lieu of education requirements listed above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirements
  • Qualify as an NLCP Certifying Scientist in an appropriate time frame
  • Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
  • Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Excellent research and problem resolution skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks at a given time
  • Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
