About The Position

Intertek, a Nationally Recognized Testing Lab (NRTL) and leading provider of quality and safety solutions, is seeking a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to join their Professional Services Industries Inc. (Intertek-PSI) team in Plymouth, MI. This role offers a career opportunity within the architectural, engineering, and construction (A/E/C) industry. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Certification with D1.1 experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience required.
  • Ability to read blueprints and understand and interpret tolerances.
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to receive, understand, and execute written and verbal directions.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively in verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to work well independently and with others.
  • Ability to periodically work off shifts and overtime.
  • Ability to test concrete and compaction.
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical Degree in Welding is preferred.
  • Construction materials testing experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Employ knowledge and training of welding processes, test methods, discontinuities, materials, qualifications, and standards to ensure weldments and weld-related activities comply with applicable quality and safety criteria.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and environment guidelines, policies, and regulations.
  • Perform testing and inspection of structural steel during erection on general building and pipeline sites, as well as occasional plant inspections.
  • Inspect general construction and structural steel erection for buildings.
  • Perform visual inspections on welded products in progress and completed jobs.
  • Inspect welding jobs for defects such as cracks, porosity, undercut, etc.
  • Record results of tests and welding inspections.
  • Issue and follow up on non-conformances until closure.
  • Plan and conduct analysis, inspection, testing, and/or integration to assure the quality of assigned products or components.
  • Review all welded products or components and provide input on acceptance or rejection.
  • Document data obtained during quality assurance activities consistent with company policies and procedures.
  • Communicate significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and provide recommended process improvements to management.
  • Inspect, test, or measure materials, products, installations, or work for conformance to specifications.
  • Measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications using measuring instruments.
  • Operate testing equipment, conduct testing (e.g., soil, concrete), and provide assessment of data through reporting.
  • Operate a calculator to calculate mathematical test results.
  • Adhere to safety practices and policies to ensure personal safety and the safety of others.
