About The Position

ECS is hiring a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to our Greensboro, NC operations. ECS is an employee-owned engineering consulting firm supporting construction and facilities projects through special inspections, materials testing, geotechnical, environmental, and facilities engineering. This CWI role puts you on active job sites inspecting the connections that hold structures and systems together.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of experience inspecting welds and structural connections on facilities and building systems.
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification, or ability and readiness to obtain it within an agreed timeline.
  • At least 1 additional relevant certification (or readiness to obtain) from recognized authorities such as NRC, NICET, WACEL, ACI, IFC, AWS, ASNT, ASTM (other authorities may be considered at ECS discretion).
  • Ability to carry 40–70 lbs multiple times per day and occasionally lift up to 85 lbs to waist height.
  • Valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
  • Ability to provide reliable transportation for travel to job sites. Mileage is reimbursed.
  • Ability to work outdoors and on active construction sites in varying conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional NDT experience and certifications (example areas: UT, MT, PT, RT, VT).
  • Experience working for an engineering consulting firm, inspection agency, or third-party special inspection provider.
  • Familiarity with documentation requirements for special inspections, quality programs, and construction inspection reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field observations and inspections of structural steel and reinforcing steel, including welded and bolted connections.
  • Conduct AWS CWI welding inspections on projects across commercial, industrial, and residential construction.
  • Inspect piping systems and pressure vessels where applicable.
  • Perform non-destructive testing (NDT) as assigned, and calibrate, maintain, and document NDT equipment use, as needed.
  • Obtain samples for testing (as needed) and document findings clearly using accepted inspection and engineering practices.
  • Maintain complete daily documentation including field notes, inspection reports, photos, and test logs.
  • Coordinate with project teams, contractors, and clients to support scheduling, scope alignment, and issue resolution.
  • Follow ECS safety requirements and site-specific safety plans.
