About The Position

Washington Equipment Manufacturing Company, Inc. (WEMCO, Inc.) is a contract manufacturer that specializes in the design, engineering, and manufacturing of productivity-enhancing solutions, such as overhead cranes for material handling, automated aerospace tooling and parts, agricultural equipment, and custom machinery used in multiple industries around the world. WEMCO, Inc.’s facility is fully integrated with the capability to perform nearly all services in-house. Under the supervision of the Director of Quality and Safety, the Certified Welding Inspector will be responsible for ensuring the quality and integrity of welded components through inspection and analysis processes. We are looking for a candidate who is a self-motivated industry professional who will need little guidance and oversight, with experience inspecting, creating reports, and managing.

Requirements

  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) must have obtained a current QC1 Certification from AWS
  • Level II certification in Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) and Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
  • In-depth knowledge of AWS D1.1 standards and specifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality inspection within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in using various inspection tools and equipment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make sound decisions based on inspection findings
  • Proficiency in creating Inspection Records and Quality Reports

Nice To Haves

  • Firm understanding of quality management systems and standards (ISO 9001, AS9100, etc.) preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of AWS D14.1 standards and specifications a plus

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough inspections and tests on materials and products using Ultrasonic (UT) and Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) methods
  • Perform visual and dimensional inspections of in-process and finished products in compliance with AWS standards
  • Perform final checks of all materials before leaving the fab shop to ensure compliance with drawings and standards
  • Prepare, maintain, and file accurate inspection records
  • Collaborate and work well with production and engineering teams, and third-party inspectors to ensure compliance with quality standards and specifications
  • Identify and report any defects or non-conformities and assist in implementing corrective actions
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and process efficiency
  • Provide training and guidance to staff regarding quality and inspection procedures
  • Ensure all testing equipment is calibrated and maintained in proper working conditions
