About The Position

PGS Worldwide is seeking a Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) / Weld Quality Technician in York, Pennsylvania for a one-year onsite contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company. This position will serve as a technical lead for Visual Testing (VT) operations, providing weld-quality inspection, technical guidance, personnel oversight, and quality-assurance support within a manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Active Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) certification required.
  • 5+ years of direct Visual Testing (VT), Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), and/or weld quality assurance experience.
  • Strong knowledge of visual weld inspection techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to interpret welding codes, standards, contractual requirements, drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
  • Experience preparing, reviewing, or verifying inspection work instructions and procedures.
  • Experience supporting weld-quality inspections in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Experience investigating quality issues and supporting Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA).
  • Strong technical writing skills for inspection procedures, reports, and quality documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and oversight to inspection personnel.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to climb, bend, and stand for extended periods, including up to 12 hours per day.
  • Ability to work significant overtime as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Senior-level CWI designation.
  • Experience training, examining, or certifying VT/NDT inspection personnel.
  • Experience auditing inspection personnel against written practices and quality procedures.
  • Experience working with represented or bargaining-unit employees.
  • Experience supporting high-volume defense or heavy manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical lead for Visual Testing operations.
  • Provide technical oversight and mentorship to VT Level II inspection personnel.
  • Support training, examination, and certification of inspection personnel.
  • Conduct internal audits to verify compliance with established written practices.
  • Interpret VT indications and provide technical input for engineering disposition.
  • Execute and oversee visual inspection procedures and techniques.
  • Ensure welding and inspection activities comply with customer, industry, and internal quality requirements.
  • Review drawings, blueprints, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Maintain detailed product-quality and inspection records.
  • Review and approve inspection technique sheets as required.
  • Work with production teams to improve inspection hold points and reduce manufacturing bottlenecks.
  • Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, and Quality teams to resolve complex weld-quality issues.
  • Perform root cause investigations and develop corrective actions.
  • Monitor quality trends and communicate significant risks or issues to management.
  • Balance rigorous inspection requirements with production schedule and throughput needs.
