About The Position

The Connecticut Humane Society is seeking a CERTIFIED Veterinary Technician to join their team at the Waterford location. This full-time, benefit-eligible position is ideal for someone who can handle different communication styles and enjoys a busy environment. The role requires a creative, customer-service-oriented individual who can work well within a team and manage multiple priorities. A strong knowledge of animal handling and medical care, along with a basic understanding of different companion animal types, is necessary. The schedule is five days per week, including one weekend day.

Requirements

• Prior experience working in a shelter or veterinary clinic
• Surgery skills are a must
• Detail-focused
• Comfortable using technology to maintain accurate electronic medical records
• Ability to think critically to be a stakeholder in patients' treatment plans and care
• Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
• Associates Degree in animal science or related field
• 1-3 years of experience if certified
• 3-5 years of experience if not certified plus ability to become certified within 6-12 months
• Must have worked as a vet tech, not a vet assistant, in a clinic or shelter setting with surgery experience
• Ability to perform physically strenuous activities which will require lifting of moderate to heavy weights (up to 40 lbs.), standing and/or bending, pushing brooms and/or mops, and walking and/or controlling dogs and/or cats, use of cleaning solutions and sitting at a desk for long periods of time
• Prior experience with animal restraint
• Proficiency in computers and on-line medical records

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of animal handling and experience preferred
• CVT or LVT certification
• Bachelor's Degree

Responsibilities

• Assist in the provision of quality medical and surgical care of animals
• Perform routine preventative care
• Administer medications
• Assess patient progress
• Run basic laboratory tests
• Perform surgical prep and post-op care
• Induce and monitor anesthetized patients
• Answer adopters' and fosters' questions about medical conditions and home care
• Perform end-of-life care when necessary
• Maintain accurate electronic medical records using technology
