About The Position

We are seeking a Certified Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant to work per diem shifts, picking up at least 3 shifts per month. This role will assist with procedures for homeless animals at our adoption center and for owned patients from our low-cost community clinic. This is an opportunity to work in a clinic that serves underserved local communities and cares for thousands of homeless animals at our Northeast Adoption Center in Salem, MA. The primary responsibilities include assisting the staff veterinarian with procedures and treatments to maintain the health of homeless animals awaiting adoption. This position supports the veterinary team and shelter staff with examinations, vaccinations, and medical testing of incoming animals. It also involves surgical monitoring for spays/neuters, dentals, and other surgical procedures for animals awaiting adoption and for community clinic patients. The role offers exposure to a diverse range of surgical and medical cases not commonly seen in private practice. The position offers a consistent schedule for work-life balance, combined with the dynamic nature of an urgent care clinic, providing lifesaving care to animals in need. Requirements

  • Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) or at least one year of experience as a veterinary assistant.
  • Previous animal handling experience.
  • Detail animal care experience in cover letter.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in anesthesia monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting staff veterinarian with procedures and treatments required to ensure and maintain the health of homeless animals awaiting adoption.
  • Assisting the veterinary team and shelter staff with the examination, vaccination and medical testing of incoming animals.
  • Surgical monitoring for spays/neuters, dentals, and other surgical procedures for animals awaiting adoption and for animals seen through the community clinic for low income clients.
