About The Position

Heritage Oaks Hospital is part of the UHS Family of Providers which has been highly regarded as an integral part of the greater Sacramento and Northern California mental health system since 1988. Conveniently located in northern Sacramento, Heritage Oaks is a fully accredited, 125-bed acute psychiatric hospital offering a full range of individually tailored treatment services to adolescents, adults, and senior adults, including treatment for substance abuse and chemical dependency issues with drugs and alcohol. Heritage Oaks is a Medicare provider in addition to contracts with most commercial health insurance plans. We are committed to providing service excellence to all and ensuring our patients receive the optimal level of care that will be most beneficial to their health and recovery. The full-time Recreational Therapist is responsible for planning and implementing activity services for assigned program, which involves defining and implementing treatment goals as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and providing continuous patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling to patients under the direction of a Program Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in activity therapy, humanities, social work or related therapeutic discipline required; and a Certified Recreational Therapy Specialist (CTRS).
  • 1 year of related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques and understanding of mental illness in an acute inpatient setting, preferred.
  • Requires certification by state and/or national governing body in one of the following areas: art, recreation, or music therapy.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Verbal De-escalation and Handle with Care training upon hire and within 30 days of employment.
  • May be required to work overtime and flexible hours.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate responsibility for observation and application of sound judgment in patients' physical and mental condition/needs.
  • Observe and document changes in patients' appearance, behavior, and ability to work towards treatment plan goals.
  • Communicate changes in patient's condition to Charge Nurse or Program Manager.
