About The Position

Voorhees Pediatric Facility is seeking a Full-Time Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist (CTRS) to join their skilled Recreation Therapy Team. This role is crucial in assessing play, recreation, leisure skills, and psychosocial adjustment for children and young adults (birth to 21+) in a long-term care setting. The CTRS will design, plan, and implement therapeutic activities and recreation to meet resident needs, adhering to the standards of the American Therapeutic Recreation Association. This position requires professional judgment, problem-solving, and time-management skills to ensure quality resident care. The CTRS will also participate in resident and family teaching and collaborate with other disciplines on the interdisciplinary team to maintain optimal care standards and ensure treatment plan carryover.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation from an accredited program
• Certification by NCTRC as a CTRS; required within 3 months of date of hire
• Active CPR/ BLS certification.

Nice To Haves

• Dual certified CCLS preferred
• Pediatric experience in medical settings preferred
• Experience working with children with medical complexity, chronic illness, disability
• Ability to supervise groups of infants, children, and adolescents with disabilities in a safe manner.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with healthcare providers and the families
• Ability to function independently, and as a team member of the TR/CL Department and Interdisciplinary team
• Comply with all clinical ladder criteria; qualifications, obligations and areas of competency associated with Levels 1- 3

Responsibilities

• Plan and facilitate individualized and group therapeutic recreation activities that support each resident's developmental, cognitive, physical, emotional, and social needs.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate resident treatment plans and recreational goals in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team.
• Foster a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment while promoting positive behaviors, resident engagement, and family-centered care.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough documentation, including assessments, progress notes, treatment plans, participation records, and discharge summaries.
• Organize and coordinate special events, community outings, holiday activities, and therapeutic recreation programs that enhance residents' quality of life.
• Communicate effectively with residents, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members to advocate for resident needs and ensure continuity of care.
• Maintain recreation equipment, supplies, treatment areas, and program resources while ensuring compliance with facility policies, safety standards, and infection control procedures.
• Demonstrate professionalism through effective workload management, ongoing education, quality improvement participation, and continuous enhancement of therapeutic recreation services.
