About The Position

Arizona Autism Charter Schools (AZACS) is seeking Certified Classroom Teacher candidates to implement instruction in a classroom with support from campus leadership. AZACS is growing and has been recognized with prestigious awards for its innovation in education and unique individualized learning programs for autism charter schools. The AZACS Teacher’s Academy offers individuals with a bachelor's degree the potential to advance their careers through hands-on learning, comprehensive training, and support from certified educational professionals. Under the supervision of campus leadership, the Classroom Teacher will teach and implement the adopted curriculum and students’ IEP goals within the AZACS structured classroom model. Candidates should have experience with classroom teaching and ABA teaching strategies, preferably within school settings, and demonstrate the ability to be trained, coached, and motivate behavioral staff. The Classroom Teacher will collaborate with SPED Campus Leadership and the ABA Manager to implement a best-practice education model for students on the autism spectrum and related disorders.

Requirements

• Valid Arizona Department of Education Standard Teaching Certification
• At least 1 year of experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities in a classroom environment is preferred
• Bachelor's degree required
• Enrollment in the AZACS Teaching Certification program or a college/university certification program
• Mastery and enthusiasm for best practices in autism education and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
• Track record of success in behavior management with students with autism or other special needs
• Ability to approach situations with optimism and perseverance
• Ability to communicate with parents, co-workers, and professional contacts courteously and professionally, and follow AZACS guidelines
• Ability to work independently and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously
• Ability to exercise reasonable judgment and maintain confidentiality
• Experience in structured teaching, center-based model preferred
• Valid Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card
• Experience and training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
• Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the lead teacher and point person in a classroom
• Work with a classroom team that includes a classroom teacher
• Ensure that the classroom support staff are implementing instructional strategies and lessons as set forth
• Create a safe and effective learning environment
• Weekly lesson planning for instruction of state standards
• Provide daily feedback to support staff
• Participate in regular observations and in-the-moment coaching from campus leadership
• Report data with high fidelity and analyze data bi-weekly to make instructional decisions
• Regular parent communication following AZACS guidelines
• Modification of materials to meet student needs and IEP requirements
• Maintain substitute plans in case of absence
• Participate in all duties and responsibilities as appropriate for an AZACS faculty member
• Contribute to IEPs as appropriate
• Other duties as assigned by the administration
• Set up of lessons and instructional activities for classroom support staff
• Coaches, monitors, and mentors classroom support staff working with students with disabilities.
