About The Position

The YMCA of South Florida is looking for Certified Teachers to join our Broward Youth Development Team for various general population sites. Under the direction of the Site Supervisor, the Certified Teacher is responsible for overall day-to-day group academic programming, discipline, direct supervision, and management of an assigned group of children in a licensed child care/day camp facility as assigned by the Program Director.

Requirements

  • A valid Florida Teaching Certificate.
  • One (1) to Three (3) years of experience in a licensed child care/day camp facility or educational institution, including direct contact with children.
  • Ability to relate to people and understand/practice YMCA Character Development values (Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Must submit to and satisfactorily clear a thorough Level II fingerprinting background screening.
  • Must successfully complete a urinalysis drug test within 72 hours of notice.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic instruction and program enrichment, including curriculum delivery and homework assistance, for an assigned group of 15-20 students in an after-school program.
  • Recruit a minimum of 20 students for their individual component.
  • Collaborate with the LEAP High Success Coach to support the academic, social, and emotional growth of students.
  • Implement and lead contract scope of work as indicated by Children's Services Council.
  • Plan, supervise, and implement age and developmentally appropriate activities for assigned children, submitting monthly curriculums/lesson plans to the Site Supervisor.
  • Conduct and maintain measurable tools to track participant progress.
  • Follow proper emergency procedures to ensure child safety.
  • Preserve the quality of supplies, equipment, and materials, reporting re-order needs.
  • Conduct regular inspections of program areas to ensure cleanliness and safety.
  • Maintain coordination with facility personnel for the safety and benefit of children.
  • Document behavior issues and/or incidents daily, as needed.
  • Report notable health issues of each child daily and document incidents with the Site Supervisor.
  • Report all incidents and accidents immediately to the Site Supervisor.
  • Adhere to Child Abuse & Neglect Reporting requirements and internal reporting procedures.
  • Ensure proper staff to child ratios are maintained at all times and report discrepancies.
