About The Position

The YMCA of South Florida is seeking Certified Teachers to join their Broward Youth Development Team. The Certified Teacher, under the direction of the Site Supervisor, is responsible for the day-to-day academic programming, discipline, and direct supervision of an assigned group of children within a licensed child care/day camp facility. This role involves implementing curriculum, assisting with homework, and ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for children aged 15-20 in an after-school program.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or higher.
  • Possess a valid Florida Teaching Certificate.
  • One (1) to Three (3) years of experience in a licensed child care/day camp facility or educational institution with direct contact with children.
  • Ability to relate to people and understand/practice YMCA Character Development values (Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility).
  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years old at the time of hire.
  • State of Florida teacher certification.
  • Within ninety (90) days of hire, must enroll in and complete First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Must complete and maintain all necessary certifications within the proper timeframe as set forth by the licensing agency, State of Florida, or the YMCA of South Florida.
  • Must submit to and satisfactorily clear a thorough Level II fingerprint background screening.
  • Must successfully complete a drug test (Medical Marijuana cards are not accepted).

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic instruction and program enrichment, including curriculum delivery and homework assistance.
  • Manage day-to-day group programming, discipline, and direct supervision of 15-20 children in the after-school program.
  • Review, implement, and lead contract scope of work as indicated by Children’s Services Council.
  • Plan, supervise, and implement age and developmentally appropriate activities according to licensing agency, State of Florida, and YMCA of South Florida mission and policies.
  • Submit monthly curriculums/lesson plans to the Site Supervisor in a timely and neat manner.
  • Conduct and maintain necessary measurable tools to track participant progress.
  • Follow proper emergency procedures to ensure the safety of children.
  • Preserve the quality of supplies, equipment, and materials, and report re-order needs to the Site Supervisor.
  • Conduct regular inspections of program areas to ensure cleanliness and safety.
  • Maintain close coordination with facility personnel for the safety and benefit of children.
  • Document behavior issues and/or incidents daily, as needed.
  • Report notable health issues of each child daily and document incidents with the Site Supervisor.
  • Report all incidents and accidents immediately to the Site Supervisor.
  • Adhere to Child Abuse & Neglect Reporting requirements and follow internal reporting procedures.
  • Ensure proper staff-to-child ratios are maintained at all times and report discrepancies to the Site Supervisor.
