About The Position

The Certified Teacher, 3rd Grade is responsible for providing an environment that enables each child to reach their fullest physical, emotional, educational, psychological, and behavioral potential. This role involves utilizing knowledge of subject matter and curriculum development, displaying strong interpersonal skills, planning and providing effective instruction, employing learning principles, managing the classroom, acting professionally, and gathering/recording data.

Requirements

  • Appropriate certification and highly qualified requirements.
  • Documentation of a negative Mantoux skin test or other tuberculosis-screening test recommended by the US Centers for Disease Control administered within 12 months before the starting date of employment.
  • A Food Handler’s Card authorized through the Arizona Department of Health prior to the starting date of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Uses knowledge of Subject Matter: Demonstrates knowledge in subject area and curriculum development, including scope and sequence.
  • Displays Interpersonal Skills: Communicates effectively with students, demonstrates and promotes mutual respect, promotes positive self-concepts, maintains a positive and stimulating learning environment, communicates enthusiasm for learning, and uses correct written and oral expression.
  • Plans for Instruction: Submits weekly lesson plans reflecting goals, objectives, and activities; assesses student skill levels; plans instruction to achieve objectives; chooses relevant academic activities; follows district curriculum design; sequences learning activities; plans instruction at varying cognitive levels; organizes instruction to meet individual differences; organizes resources (time, space, materials, equipment); and monitors and assesses student progress.
  • Provides Instruction: Instructs at student skill level, teaches to learning objectives, teaches necessary objectives in sequence, provides instruction at various cognitive levels, uses strategies to maximize student engagement, uses a variety of instructional techniques, models correct performance, gives clear directions, monitors student learning, obtains responses for each objective, and adjusts instruction to meet individual needs.
  • Uses Learning Principles: Communicates the purpose and value of learning objectives, provides sufficient guided and independent practice with monitoring, holds students accountable for learning, provides appropriate focus at the beginning of learning, and summarizes learning.
  • Uses Classroom Management Strategies: Employs effective classroom management techniques, communicates expectations for behavior, demonstrates ability to work with individuals/groups, and manages inappropriate behavior according to board policy.
  • Displays Professionalism: Acts professionally, engages in professional development, seeks and shares professional ideas, acts in accordance with legal and professional responsibilities, uses discretion with confidential information, identifies exceptional students and refers them, uses effective parent-teacher communication, accepts additional responsibilities, supervises and evaluates support staff/volunteers, shows care in personal hygiene, and adheres to board and administrative policy.
  • Gathers and Records Data: Maintains appropriate and adequate information according to Federal Law, State Law, District Policy, and School Procedures.
