About The Position

The City of Indianola is seeking a Certified Swim Instructor to lead swimming lessons. This role involves instructing participants in the water according to IWC guidelines, building relationships with students and parents, encouraging parent involvement, and maintaining teaching equipment. The instructor will also organize and store class equipment, report any damaged items, and train/supervise class aides. Indianola is a growing community with a historic downtown, located near Des Moines, known for its friendly atmosphere, excellent schools, and access to outdoor activities and major events.

Requirements

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Ability to demonstrate all skills required to teach participants both in and out of the water.
• American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor required.
• Current American Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED or equivalent - prior to starting if hired.

Responsibilities

• Instruct swimming lessons in the water in accordance with IWC guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
• Build effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; help them connect with each other and the IWC.
• Encourage parent involvement and identify potential volunteers.
• Maintain teaching equipment and conduct routine checks to ensure participant safety.
• Organize and put away needed class equipment.
• Report any damaged equipment.
• Train and supervise class aides as assigned.
