About The Position

The City of Indianola is seeking a Certified Swim Instructor to lead swimming lessons in the water, adhering to IWC guidelines and prepared lesson plans. This role involves building strong relationships with students and parents, fostering parent involvement, and identifying potential volunteers. The instructor will also be responsible for maintaining teaching equipment, ensuring participant safety, organizing and storing class equipment, and reporting any damaged items. Additionally, the position includes training and supervising assigned class aides.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Ability to demonstrate all skills required to teach participants both in and out of the water.
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor required.
  • Current American Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED or equivalent - prior to starting if hired.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct swimming lessons in the water in accordance with IWC guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
  • Build effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; help them connect with each other and the IWC.
  • Encourage parent involvement and identify potential volunteers.
  • Maintain teaching equipment and conduct routine checks to ensure participant safety.
  • Organize and put away needed class equipment.
  • Report any damaged equipment.
  • Train and supervise class aides as assigned.
