About The Position

Sentara Martha Jefferson Outpatient Surgery Center is seeking a Flexi/PRN Certified Surgical Technologist in Charlottesville, VA. This role offers a flexible schedule with no weekends, nights, or on-call duties. The outpatient surgery center provides high-quality care in a collaborative environment with registered nurses, surgical techs, sterile services, and support staff. The facility features four operating rooms and offers a range of surgical services including orthopedic, breast, gynecology, plastics, ENT, urology, ophthalmology, and pediatrics. Operating hours are primarily Monday to Friday from 6 am to 3 pm, with potential for occasional variations. The Surgical Technologist is responsible for preparing the operating room, assisting the surgical team by passing instruments, maintaining the sterile field, and anticipating the surgeon's needs. This role also involves ensuring patient safety, maintaining an organized, clean, and sterile surgical environment, assisting with dressings and drapes, and transferring patients to recovery areas. Adherence to infection control protocols and sterile techniques is crucial.

Requirements

  • Surgical Technologist Licensure required in the state of practice.
  • Trade School Graduate – Surgical Technologist (required)
  • Licensed Surgical Technologist – Virginia (Required)
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - Certifications - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) OR Tech in Surgery TS-C - Certification - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Certification - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • No experience Required
  • Strong understanding of surgical procedures, sterile techniques, and patient safety protocols.
  • Strong communication skills with providers and surgical staff required.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that the operating room is properly prepared with the necessary instruments and equipment.
  • Assists the surgical team throughout the procedure by passing instruments, maintaining the sterile field, and anticipating the needs of the surgeon.
  • Maintains patient safety and ensures that the surgical environment is organized, clean, and sterile.
  • Assists in applying dressings, securing surgical drapes and transferring patients to recovery areas.
  • Adheres to infection control protocols and sterile techniques to prevent contamination and ensure patient safety.
  • Works closely with the surgical team to ensure smooth and effective procedures.
