The Certified Surgical Technologist will apply principles and practices of asepsis, perform surgical scrubs, gowning, and gloving procedures. This role involves assembling necessary supplies, setting up sterile instrument tables, and preparing supplies according to the type of operation. The technologist will assist and anticipate the needs of the surgeon for instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies, while maintaining correct counts of sponges, needles, and instruments with the circulating nurse. Maintaining aseptic technique at all times and instituting corrective measures in the event of contamination is crucial. The role also includes assisting in the care, handling, and disposition of specimens, inspecting instruments for sterility and proper functioning, and correctly receiving and labeling solutions and medications on the sterile field. Participation in the Universal Protocol (Sign in, Time out, and sign out) and Fire Risk Assessment is required. The technologist will demonstrate and understand the use of all equipment, communicate malfunctioning equipment immediately, and maintain sharps safety measures. Maintaining an organized sterile back table, following point of use instrument cleaning standards, and assisting with cleanup in the OR are also responsibilities. The role requires maintaining safety measures at all times, fostering good professional working relationships, and maintaining professional and technical knowledge through continuing education and professional certification. The technologist will contribute to team efforts and high-quality, safe patient outcomes through collaboration and promoting PRIDE values. Other related duties as assigned.
