About The Position

The primary responsibilities for this role include maintaining the sterile field, anticipating the needs of the surgical team, and ensuring adherence to aseptic technique by all team members under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The position involves basic surgical case preparation, organizing and prioritizing patient care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team under the direction of the circulating nurse. The role requires differentiating between sterile and unsterile items, demonstrating principles of aseptic technique and sterile conscience, and possessing a working knowledge of surgical procedures. Awareness of environmental safety practices for the patient, self, and team is crucial. The Certified Surgical Technologist supports operating room procedures, interfaces effectively with peers and customers, and assumes responsibility for professional development of self and others. Leadership in the delivery of technical patient care is also expected. Additional duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent required
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist Training Program required
  • Certified to practice as a Surgical Technologist by NBSTSA (The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) or NCCT (The National Center for Competency Testing) required
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required
  • Current registration with the Virginia Board of Medicine required at time of hire
  • Proof of registration will be required as part of the onboarding process; registration must remain active throughout duration of employment
