About The Position

This role involves working in the Main Operating Room at Ascension Saint Thomas Midtown. The Certified Surgical Technologist will act as a crucial support to surgeons, anticipating their needs and ensuring the correct instruments and supplies are readily available. A key aspect of the role is patient advocacy, ensuring safety, dignity, and clinical excellence throughout surgical procedures. The technologist is responsible for maintaining the sterile field, organizing workflows, and ensuring 100% accuracy in instrument and sponge counts to guarantee patient safety from incision to closure.

Requirements

BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
Surgical Tech credentialed from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
Per Tennessee Code (TCA) 68-57-101(a), non-certified applicants must have 18 months of surgical technologist experience in the 3 years preceding 5/21/07; or began the appropriate surgical technologist training prior to 5/21/07 and completed by 5/21/10.
High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

Responsibilities

Act as the "right hand" to surgeons by anticipating every move, ensuring the exact instrument or supply is ready before it’s even requested.
Ensure patient safety, dignity, and clinical excellence at every stage of the procedure through precision positioning and meticulous draping.
Take ownership of the sterile field with masterfully organized workflows.
Maintain 100% accuracy in instrument and sponge counts, serving as the final word in patient safety from incision to closure.
