About The Position

The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) plays a crucial role in the Operating Room, assisting in providing peri-operative care for a diverse patient population including Infants, Pediatrics, Adults, and Geriatrics. This fast-paced, high-volume department averages 75 surgeries per day and is a Level I Trauma Candidate, offering excellent clinical experience with high-acuity and intense surgical procedures. The role involves intra-operative skill display, assisting in coordinating patient care peri-operatively, and assuming responsibility and accountability for maintaining professional nursing practice standards. Post-operatively, the CST follows proper procedures for the care of instruments, supplies, and equipment, and assists the RN circulator with post-operative duties under supervision.

Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent and was employed to practice surgical technology in a health care facility before September 1, 2009
Graduate of an accredited surgery technology program, Vocational Nurse Program or graduate/completion of a military training program in surgical technology Upon hire
CST - Certified Surgical Technologist (NBSTSA) or TS-C (NCCT) and graduate of an accredited surgical tech program Upon Hire
CST - Certified Surgical Technologist (NBSTSA) or TS-C (NCCT) and was employed to practice surgical technology in a healthcare facility before September 1,2009
CST - Certified Surgical Technologist (NBSTSA) or TS-C (NCCT) and graduate/completion of a military training program in surgical technology within 2 years of hire
LVN - Licensed Vocational Nurse Upon Hire
BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly

Assists in providing Peri-operative care for a patient population that includes Infants, Pediatrics, Adults, and Geriatrics.
Preoperatively assists R.N. circulator in formulating plan of care.
Post-operatively follows proper procedures for care of instruments, supplies and equipment.
Under supervision, assists RN circulator with post-operative duties.
