This position involves implementing and communicating age-specific plans of care, providing thorough reports, and communicating the need for special equipment and supplies. The role participates in operating room turnover activities, room setup, and breakdown, ensuring adequate supplies for patient care. Key responsibilities include monitoring infection control and sterilization standards, establishing and maintaining a sterile field, monitoring aseptic technique, and documenting accordingly. The technologist will follow procedures for decontaminating instruments, assist with instrument processing and sterilization, and maintain environmental controls. They will perform sponge, sharp, and instrument counts with the RN and take appropriate action for incorrect counts. The role ensures appropriate and safe use of equipment and instrumentation, "second assists" as needed under surgeon's direction, holds retractors, anticipates equipment and supply needs, and troubleshoots equipment. The technologist also assists with patient care procedures, including specimen labeling, tapping mallet and cutting suture (licensed personnel only), and performing surgical skin prep.
