About The Position

The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Trainee is an entry-level healthcare position at Des Peres Square Surgery Center designed to prepare trainees for a future role as a Certified Surgical Technologist. Through a structured education and clinical training pathway supported by Stepful, the trainee participates in classroom instruction, simulation, competency validation, and supervised clinical experiences. The program develops the knowledge and skills needed to obtain Surgical Technologist certification and transition into a Certified Surgical Technologist role.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Enrollment in or acceptance to a Stepful-supported Surgical Technology pathway.
• Ability to satisfy clinical placement requirements and background screening requirements.
• Basic computer proficiency and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• Previous healthcare experience or volunteer experience.
• Coursework in anatomy, physiology, biology, or health sciences.

Responsibilities

• Participate in Stepful educational requirements, coursework, assessments, and training activities.
• Assist with preparation of operating and procedure rooms under supervision.
• Gather, organize, transport, and stock instruments, supplies, and equipment.
• Learn and apply aseptic technique, infection prevention practices, and sterile field principles.
• Assist with room turnover and equipment readiness.
• Support instrument processing and sterilization activities.
• Observe and progressively participate in perioperative workflows under approved supervision.
• Maintain required documentation and competency records.
• Comply with patient safety, confidentiality, quality, and regulatory standards.
