The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) in our operating room assists surgeons, nurses, and other surgical team members before, during, and after surgical procedures. With 227 beds, the community hospital specializes in emergency care, orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology, wound care, surgery, cardiology, gastroenterology, critical care, and interventional radiology. Knapp serves as the only acute care hospital in the Mid-Valley area, as well as Weslaco's only Level III Trauma Center, Advanced Primary Stroke Center, and Level II Newborn Nursery. Requirements

  • Graduate of a Certified Surgical Tech accredited program. (CST) training program with less than one years’ experience in a surgical setting required.
  • Certified Surgical Tech (CST) Certification upon hire required and maintained for employment.
  • Current BLS (AHA) upon hire and maintain current.
  • Experience in scrubbing minor and major procedures in the generalized surgical specialties, General, Urology, Eye (cataracts), Gynecology, Minor Vascular and Hand Specialty.

  • Non-certified employees hired prior to 12/2014 are exempt from this requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of sterile supplies and instruments for each assigned procedure.
  • Maintaining sterile field during case.
  • Providing surgeon with sterile supplies and instruments during assigned procedures.
  • Demonstrate independent practice in the role of primary scrub technician.
  • Able to assume the role of camera holder and retractor holder on more complicated cases.
