About The Position

The Certified Surgical Tech reflects Northwestern Medicine’s mission, vision, and values, follows its Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with applicable policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory and accreditation standards. The role facilitates the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures. The schedule is Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. There is no call, but working 1–2 holidays per year is required.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
• Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) within twelve months of hire.
• CPR – Basic Life Support.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the surgical operating suite with drapes, medications, solutions, instruments, equipment, implants, and supplies.
• Ensure equipment and instruments are available and functional.
• Assist with preparing, transporting, positioning, and draping patients.
• Pass instruments to the physician during surgery.
• Continually account for the number and location of instruments and supplies during surgery.
• Receive and process specimens for delivery to the laboratory, if required.
