About The Position

Ascension Seton Medical Center in Austin, Texas is seeking a Certified Surgical Tech for their Labor and Delivery department. This full-time, night shift position (7pm-7am) involves preparing operating rooms and birthing suites, assisting obstetricians during deliveries and surgeries, managing patient positioning and sterile fields, and ensuring the efficient flow of obstetric procedures. The role requires anticipating the surgeon's needs to support optimal outcomes for mother and newborn.

Requirements

  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted required.
  • Surgical Tech credentialed from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date OR Surgical Tech credentialed from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
  • High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
  • 1–3 years of experience in Labor and Delivery as a Certified Surgical Technologist

Responsibilities

  • Prepare Labor & Delivery operating rooms and birthing suites with specialized sterile and non-sterile instruments and supplies required for scheduled or emergent C-sections, vaginal deliveries, and perineal repairs.
  • Pass required surgical instruments, sutures, and supplies efficiently to the obstetrician during deliveries and surgeries, while assisting with critical tasks such as maintaining hemostasis.
  • Assist with safe transport, positioning, and draping of obstetric patients, ensuring comfort, dignity, and a strict sterile field for both epidural placements and surgical procedures.
  • Maintain meticulous organization of the surgical field, continuously tracking and counting instruments, sponges, and sharps throughout high-stress or rapid-paced emergency deliveries to ensure maternal safety.
  • Facilitate the safe, rapid, and efficient flow of obstetric procedures by anticipating the surgeon’s needs, directly supporting optimal outcomes for both mother and newborn.
