About The Position

The Certified Surgical Technologist/OR Scrub Technician provides proper and efficient care of the patient in the operating room under the direct supervision of the circulating nurse. He/she knows sterile technique, understands basic anatomy and operative procedures. Applies knowledge of instruments and equipment used in the operating rooms. For more than 40 years, Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital (VWCH) has been a place of healing and connection for patients and families in Wilson County and the surrounding area. A part of the Vanderbilt Health community of hospitals and clinics, VWCH is the sole provider of inpatient and outpatient medical services in Wilson County.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved specific discipline OR successful completion of a surgical technologist training program during the applicant's service as a member of any branch of the armed forces of the United States.
  • Less than one year of relevant work experience.
  • Certification from one of the listed issuers below: NBSTSA CST – National Board of Surgical Technologist and Surgical Assistants, Certified Surgical Technologist. NCCT – TSC – National Center for Competency Testing, Tech In Surgery.
  • Exception: If graduate of surgical technologist armed forces training program, no certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and maintain sterile fields for surgical procedures.
  • Pass instruments and supplies during procedures while anticipating surgeon and team needs.
  • Assist OR staff as requested and support efficient surgical workflow.
  • Adhere to established patient safety practices, infection prevention protocols, and organizational policies.
  • Provide patient care support, including obtaining vital signs, assisting with Foley catheter insertions/removals, and performing glucometer testing.
  • Support patients throughout their care experience while working collaboratively with the nursing and surgical teams.
  • Complete E-Star documentation and maintain accurate patient records.
  • Perform clerical and medical receptionist duties, providing administrative support to the nursing team when not assisting in the OR.
  • Cross-train in clinical and administrative functions to support department operations and patient care needs.
