About The Position

The Main Operating Room is within a level-one, academic trauma center. There are 21- OR suites which cover all surgical specialties, to include; Trauma, Transplant, Ortho, Neuro, ENT, GU-GYN, Robotics and Burns. The nursing teams consists of 75% Registered Nurses and 25% Certified Surgical Technologist. RN’s are trained to both scrub and circulate surgical procedures. The Main OR is a busy and dynamic nurse driven, Magnet designated department that provides cutting-edge technology to the citizens of SC.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduation from an accredited surgical technology program or surgical technology military program.
  • A minimum of two years’ work experience within an operating room setting required.
  • Credentialed as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (formerly LCC-ST) required and must be maintained.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Functions as a member of the operating room team to prepare sterile supplies and equipment used in the surgical procedures.
  • Perform appropriate room duties involved with direct patient care with adherence to established procedural guidelines.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills required to provide care and service appropriate to the level of development of patients, with consideration of the needs of patients' families.
  • Follows established procedural guides in the preparation of sterile supplies and equipment used in the surgical procedures.
  • Performs appropriate room duties involved with direct patient care.
  • Functions autonomously as a member of the operating room team.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills required to provide care and/or service appropriate to the level of development of patients, with consideration of the needs of patients’ families.
  • The Level II practitioner demonstrates a higher level of critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
