About The Position

Within the OR managerial structure, the trained Operating Room Tech shall assist in nursing care activities under the direction of a registered nurse and according to the job description and policies of the department. The Operating Room Tech is assigned scrub duties and specific institutional nursing services duties concerning procedural knowledge/skills and the complexity of the patient’s condition and/or the situation. These duties are to be performed in a highly confidential manner, following the mission, values, and behaviors of Insight Hospital and Medical Center. Employees are further expected to provide a high quality of care, service, and kindness toward all patients, staff, physicians, volunteers, and guests.

Requirements

• High School Diploma is required.
• Surgical Scrub Tech Certification is required.
• Previous experience as a surgical scrub technician required.
• 3 + years experience.
• Neurosurgery, Orthopedic Surgery and General Surgery experience.
• Commitment to teamwork is required.
• Ability to relate well with people required.
• Ability to problem solve independently required.
• Professionalism and confidentiality are required.

Nice To Haves

• Can supply evidence through references of on-the-job training and experience as a surgical scrub tech preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists with planning and implementation of activities related to direct patient care:
• Assists in accomplishing an individualized care plan by providing for the physical comfort, safety, and emotional welfare of the surgical patient.
• Works cooperatively as a team member with all related departments to ensure optimal patient care.
• Aware of and maintains principles of aseptic technique.
• Performs primarily in the role of scrub nurse to include.
• Prepares room, supplies, and equipment for the patient.
• Carries out scrub nurse activities required during the operation in such a manner as to ensure asepsis and patient safety.
• Assists the primary RN circulator with delegated circulating duties.
• Assists in room clean-up between cases at the end of the schedule.
• Responsible for preparation and aftercare of equipment and supplies.
• Sterilize equipment according to manufacturer recommendations.
• Assists in taking inventories of equipment and supplies.
• Recognizes and acts appropriately in an emergency.
• Participates in staff conferences as a member of the OR nursing team.
• Assists in the orientation process of new personnel in there are of clinical expertise.
• Assists in the revision of departmental procedures.
• Shares new knowledge with staff.
• Helps maintain a clean and orderly environment in the OR.
• Utilizes and supports Hospital and Operating Room policies, rules, and regulations.
• Adheres to fire and safety regulations of the hospital.
• Maintains strict sharps protocol and follows Standard Precautions.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.
