About The Position
This position provides assistance during surgical procedures by ensuring visualization of the operative site, assisting with hemostasis, and utilizing appropriate techniques for wound closure and dressing application. The role also involves anticipating the surgeon's needs, maintaining patient confidentiality, and participating in ongoing self-development.
Requirements
- Graduate of a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP) Surgical First Assistant program
- Current certification as a Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) or Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA)
- Knowledge of the principles of aseptic technique and perioperative policies and procedural guidelines
- BLS certified within 90 days of hire
Nice To Haves
- Operating Room experience or training within the last three years preferred
Responsibilities
- Provides visualization of the operative site.
- Utilizes appropriate techniques to assist with hemostasis.
- Utilizes appropriate techniques in closure of body planes.
- Selects and applies appropriate wound dressings.
- Provides assistance in securing drainage system to tissue.
- Participates in volume replacement or auto transfusion techniques as appropriate.
- Assists with positioning the patient.
- Prepares the skin for procedure.
- Anticipates the needs of the surgeon.
- Maintains confidentiality.
- Maintains ongoing self-development.
- Other duties as assigned.
